Why would a very well running 453 Detroit Diesel engine succumb to a total "lock-up" between operational episodes. There was no indication of poor engine performance, but one day she ran fine, the next she would just "clunk". Batteries were checked and charged, cables were replaced, and injectors were removed. No sign of hydralic lock, no water in oil, but water will not turn over.

It has been towed and jump starts have been attempted but she is stilll locked-up.

I have had thoughts about engine, "Timing", gears, such as the aux, etc gears breaking and locking her up.

Any thoughts...any suggestions???

Thanks,
John

Have you checked any of the accessories to see if they have locked up? Air compressor, hydralic pumps, or any gear driven accessory. You say there is no sign of hydro lock. Did you verify that the coolant is not low, or any coolant at the bottom of the oil pan? Any sign that the engine has overheated? The 453 is notorious for overheating and cracking the head. This could lock it up. Have you tried turning the engine the opposite direction? You may want to pull the oil filter and cut it open. If there is metal in it, then you probably have a hard failure. Good Luck
