I am looking at a 2000 F250 with 7.3 diesel.
It has 65000 miles on it with good service records.
One mechanic told me it had crankshaft and camshaft problems when it had between 60,000 and 70,000 miles.
Another mechanic told me that it is a great motor with no problems.
Not sure who to believe.
Are there any problems with the 7.3 diesel.
Why do most trucks have the 6.? diesel.
I will be pulling a 8,000 lb 5th wheel and I will be in the dog house if it breaks down when the wife is with me.

The 7.3L is an excellent engine! Alot of 6.0L owners I know, regret making the switch. The 6.0L really runs great, until it doesn't, then it's expensive! The 7.3L does go thru alot of CAM position sensors, I know alot of owners including myself, who carry a spare. Mechanical problems aren't very common. Usually sensor related issues. Oil quality is CRITICAL on these though. Many driveability issues are caused by old oil. I own a couple of these, and I work on plenty of them. Your model year has the electric fuel pump, which has proven to be very reliable, the older engines had mechanical pumps that weren't afraid to leak now & again. There are plenty of performance upgrades for this engine, you'll find some good advice over at "thedieselstop.com" HTH Kevin

I purchased my 1997 diesel new and drove it for 214,645 miles. I replaced 3 Cam Position Sensors and that was it till I rebuilt the transmission. Change filters and oil religiously....Fuel filter is the easiest but check the box before you buy it , some people trade filters in the boxes to avoid the 36.00 they switch out what is in the box. Fantastic truck....
