I OWN AN 04 F-250 WITH 6 LITER WITH 112,000 MILES ALL OF A SUDDEN AFTER STARTING , SPUTTERING, BELCHING BLACK SMOKE, NO THROTTLE, WONT GO GO 5 MILES AN HOUR AFTER A MILE OF THIS IT STARTED GRADUALLY RUNNING OK. SHUT OFF WHEN ARRIVING HOME ABOUT 30 MILES STARTED NEXT MORNING SAME THING. THIS IS THIRD MORNING NOW IT WONT START! WHATS UP ?

Sounds like a FICM failure. It could also be an EGR valve hung open, but not as likely. You can buy the FICM and install it yourself, but it will need to be programmed. A dealer or indie shop with IDS can do it. Do you have access to any type of scan tool? Kevin

THANK YOU FOR THE INFO PULLED OUT THE FICM AND SOLDERED 24 SPOTS THANKS TO GREAT INFORMATION ON DIESEL FORUM. WOULD HAVE NEVER FIGURED OUT ON MY OWN . REINSTALLED IN TRUCK FIRED RIGHT UP AND RAN FINE AGAIN. WHY THE HELL DO THEY HAVE SO MANY PROBLEMS!
