I have a V2203E from a bobcat 773 skidloader, the engine was smoking and knocking badly(actually more of a slapping sound in the crankcase), so I have removed the engine and proceeded to teardown, upon disassembly I found several small pieces of metal in the oilpan ( they appear to be lead or babbit). I proceeded to remove the pistons only to find that the pistons and rod bearings look great and the pistons are all tight on the pins as they should be. I have not removed the crankshaft yet, although I suppose that is the next logical step. I am baffled as to what was making the terrible slapping sound, I havent found anything wrong. (I did check out the valvetrain as well and it is fine) Does anyone out there have an idea or two for me? I am an experienced engine rebuilder, but I have never opened up a kubota diesel before, any help would be greatly appreciated

I have seen fuel cause this sound. Also incorrect valve adj.will also make them sound like thewy are "knocking/slapping"
