Perkins Lowline, 4-cylinder diesel, model 4.236M

Hi, I'm the executor of my late brothers estate, Part of this estate is a Endurance 44 Yacht. I know nothing about yachts but untill sold I have to keep it above the water. This yacht has been at mooring for about 16 mths & I've started the main engine a few times over this period. Last week I ran the engine at idle speed & after about 10 - 15 mins the bilge pump alarm started to sound. So I turned off the engine & heard the bilge pump working. After removing the floor over the engine bay, I could see that there had been quite alot of sea water in the bilge. Is there salt water that is pumped in by the engine for cooling and then returned out through the exhaust? Maybe there's a pipe that could be leaking & filling up the bilge. Has oneone had any experience with this happening ?

Regards Paul

'I listed a surplus Watermota diesel on DieselEngineTrader. It took a few months to sell, but I was delighted as the engine was quite obscure and I never thought anyone would buy it!'

'We bought a new John Deere engine via DieselEngineTrader.com for a great price and were able to sell it locally for $1000 less than our competition. We really appreciate the website - it's great!'
