Diesel Talk
Just joined in to the forums. I hope you can give me a little direction. I work in a shop in Louisiana we run about 70 trucks through. We have no diagnostic equipment except the flash code on the truck itself. The prolink iq has been suggested to us as "cheep" to help us out. We run cat, cummins, and a few mack. Is this the best for our money and is there any additional equipment needed. I need to spring this on the boss soon, I would like to make it sound like i know what i'm talking about. My bosses hate hidden cost. Thanks in advance for any help.

The IQ is good but it isn't that cheap. The best thing to do is to check out ebay for a laptop already programmed with everything you need. I got a great deal on a laptop with all possible programs for less then a new prolink. This included Mack, Cat, Cummins, International, Volvo, Detroit, and all ABS applications and more.

Is the prolink read only? Can you clear active codes? Is there any software for the different cat engines say for c-13 or c-15? thanks

The prolink isn't a read only. It will clear active faults and do some adjustments to the engine but you have to be a rocket scientist just to change the speed. Also with the prolink you have to buy the card for just about all applications. With cat you have to buy the cat card and if you have a c-13 with acert you have to buy another card. As for the laptop you don't need all the extra software. Just the few programs for the engines you will be working on.
