All those that are in favor of saying the 2000, 6.5 "F" code electronic engine control system is the worst system that GM has ever designed, SAY I, no wait a second, the internet may not have enough room on it. I am running six of them, all having an average of about 60,000 miles on them. I have never, in all my life seen vehicles that require so much maintinence, be it warranty or owner expense, to keep them running. The down time I have with these vehicles is an absolute disgrace. Problems I`ve experienced are the constant failure of rail pumps, injection pumps, engine oil cooler lines, turbos. I perform grease oil and oil filter changes, along with the fuel filters every 2,500 miles. Its gotten to the point that I change the rail pumps every six months because I am tired of paying tow bills. I fuel up at the same diesel station all the time and use antigel treatments constantly. I run three Ford 7.3 power stokes, and have never had a problem with anything. Bottom line is I will never again buy another GM vehicle. P.S. on another note I`ve replaced about ten pig tail, tail lamp harnesses on these vans due to bad grounds from rain water. GM tells me thats impossible. The only thing thats impossible is conviencing me to purchase another one of their vehicles.

I had a fleet of 6.9 and 7.3 in Ford trucks total of 12 F250's to F450's
I thought life could not get any worse................then along came GM 6.5 they bought two trucks , If you have one then you know the rest of the story...........They do not hold up in the commerical field.
They should come with warning sticker like........ poulan chainsaws have (For home and Occasional use only.)

sounds like u should have went for a dodge Lets face it GM never had a good deisel until the duramax. And they finally got it right

I have to agree, it has been an absolute nightmare with my diesels. I just sold my 2000 f250, 7.3 powerstroke to some poor sucker and am now driving a new Chev 2500HD 6.0 GAS and I couldn't be happier. Mileage is lower but the extra price for a diesel engine certainly doesn't justify buying diesel again. And it pulls my 3 ton bobcat with ease.

thanks for all the information real good stuff. I am a lot like Mr. Kerry looser) my co. purchased 1997 and1998 3500 work truck. Constant headache on both vehicles lots $ repair bills now 1997 engine has gone south.If i had only know before . ------------------------- raymond

Well folks its been a couple of years since my original post. Just to give you an update, between the 6, 6.5 vans I own I have replaced 14 injection pumps, a couple of dozen lift pumps, 1 long block, 1 set of lifters, rockers, cam, and heads, and presently I am trying to decide if its worth it to put a long block in another van.
Unlike my original thread, whereas, I was really upset, I have grown so acustomed to them breaking down, I just deal with it now and write out checks. I have absolutly "zero" confidence in any one of these vans, and I cannot wait for the day my company can afford to get rid of all of them.

Well I solved my problem, I sold the ompany, got rid of the vans and have been sleeping at nights ever since.

We tried them all in our road service trucks. Normally we gross 12,000 fully loaded with equiptment and tools, and average 75,000 miles a year. The power stroke ate up injectors, alternators, water pumps and turbo's. The Duramax was oil leaks and fuel related problems, and bearing failures. The Isuzu was gutless, and the Cummins powered Dodges fell apart at the seams and also had too many fuel problems, and no brakes, so now we are running one Cat and the rest are big block GM's. The GM big block uses a little more fuel, but we are getting 150,000 plus miles before the first engine related repair. Nobody makes a good small diesel engine.
