Ok Folks I had a bad head gasket and pulled the head and had it rebuilt. The head had new injector cups installed and I have been told that the injectors need to be pressed in. So what does this mean? Is there a reaming tool that sizes the cup for a compressed fit or are the cup the right size when installed new? So does anyone know the correct procedure for the installation of the injectors? Thanks DBR

These shouldn't need to be pressed in with anything other than the palm of your hand. Some people will draw them in with the injector hold-down bolts, others frown on this. I've seen some people seat them with a rubber mallet, and some people place a block or mallet on top and press them down in with a prybar. Coat the o-rings with whatever CAT says to these days, clean engine oil works fine. I think the manual says half 15W40 and half camshaft lubricant. Torque on the injector hold-down bolts is the most important part of this operation. Don't have the manual in front of me but its in the area of 120 in-lbs

The coppers need to be reamed and the injectors "coined" into the copper. Use STP or POWER PUNCH on the o'rings.

Thanks for the replies, I do have a couple further questions for clarification. I have found the reaming tool for the injector cup but need to know what the "coined" process is? Thanks DBR

So is there anyone on the forum that has installed injectors in a early model 3126 heui? I've had the head rebuilt and on the engine and ready for the injectors. Are they pressed in?

all injectors on the older 3116 and 3126 need to be pressed in with the injector tool specified in the cat manual. the injector hold down bolt is torqued down to 9 ft lb, pressed in with the tool and then retorqued again. i think it is 108 in lb. be careful on the crossover tubes hold down...those allen bolts can get away from ya and go into the cylinder head...
