i think its an injector sleeve.is taking out the injectors a tough complicated task on these motors. does the rack have to be readusted after reinstalling the injectors.its the first cat i owned,so I'm not familiar with the procedure.

yes, it would be the copper sleeve, probably its cracked. they make a tool grp. for removing and installing the sleeves. so unless you have a lot of those engines or are going to do a lot of them your self, you might want to have someone do it.
then if it is number one cylinder all the injectors have to be synchronized. again there is a tool grp. for setting and adjusting the rack, injectors, and valves. buying these grps. could cost a lot, compared to having some one do it that already has the tools. I am not trying to stop you from doing it yourself, just trying to let you know whats involved.

no, you have to sync it to number one. but if it is number one you have to sync all of them to number one after it is put in.

harv, cat mech is probably right about the injector sleeve. these kits that you need to do the work yourself is about $5000 for the fuel setting group, the sleeve group and then the injector seating group. if you dont know much about this 3116 engine, i recommend sending it to someone you "trust" and can count on and let them do the work for you like cat mech suggested. these engines are real tedious and can be a real hand full. it is a real chore to sync the rack and set the injectors. you have to have so many special tools to do it, that like cat mech said, if you only have this one engine, it would not be fesable to purchase the tools needed to do this job. let someone else handle the job for you and will cost you in my opinion around $1000. If you put new coolant in; depending on how old the coolant is that is in it now; that is about 7 gallons. the injector cups, new injector seals, valve cover gasket, new oring for the shutoff solenoid. that should be all the "parts" you are going to need, most of the work is just labor. keep us informed.

one other thing harv, you are going to have the cooling system flushed from all the fuel in the coolant and check all of your radiator hoses as well, the fuel will make them swell and make them real mushy feeling. i put in the last note about the coolant, brain fart on my part, you will have to have new coolant, depending on how long you drove it like this will determine about the radiator hoses as well.
