Have a 3116 in 94 GMC Topkick ran ok for 500 k. Parked for about 4 months and now have fuel issues. Runs good when you fill filter ahead of govenor, but sucks it dry and creates vacuum in filter. Both filters are new. It appears that fuel flow comes from tank , goes around govenor to front of head and out the back to filter and then govenor. I don't want to have to tow this truck in for service , just to be able to move it in the yard. Any ideas?

the fuel goes into the transfer pump on top of the governor, where there is a 3 hexs screw cover. then goes to the filter, to the back of the head and out the front. from there the line from the front of the head is a check valve in the end of it, that controls fuel pressure and return to tank. it is rectangle looking and that fitting as a spring and plunger in it.

The first thing I would check would be for a plugged fuel tank vent. Lossen the fuel tank cap and try running the engine to see if that is the problem. I have experienced bugs building nests in the vents which doesnt allow the pump to draw fuel. Ill be curious to know how you make out.

tc, we had a similar problem on a pete with larger engine and mud daubers had clogged vent tube and wouldnt suck....but the 3116's are famous for the transfer pump check valve to go bad.

The GM fuel lines are knowen to dry out and suck air, also the fuel pick up can rot at the top.
