Just joined this forum today. I'm an operator and mechanic for a small company. Last week one afternoon I pulled up to the scale house and shut down the scraper. I wasn't in there for more than 10 minutes and when I tried to start it nothing happened. Like it spun over well but didn't start. I hand primed it while somebody else cranked it. No results. We called the local Cat dealer. He changed filters checked the solenoid on the pump, pulled up and pushed down on a plate in the pump. Put it together without the pin but it wouldn't start. We had fuel squirting out of the lines when we checked them. He said it needs a pump rebuild. How could it have run so good one minute and die so quickly?

I'm assuming you have a 3208 with the "V" style pump. First make sure the little "T" valve on top in front is closed and you don't have fuel running out of the bleeder tube. If it is closed and it still doesn't start ....remove the solenoid on top and if the pump is not full, fill it with oil or fuel...preferrably oil, and replace the solenoid and then try to start it while hand priming it. This may not sound conventional, but it works a lot of times.

I filled the pump up with oil and after 30 seconds of cranking it caught on and ran a bit rough for a few seconds then smoothed out. I used it for about two hours this afternoon and it worked like it always did. I went back tonight and it started on the first crank. The boss will be shocked when he gets there tomorrow and it isn't sitting by the scale. I'll put that thought in my memory bank. Thanks for the help.

'The engine was on other sites, but we received the most calls from DieselEngineTrader.com. We sold it to the first caller-from DieselEngineTrader.com. Also, there was a waiting list on the engine if the first sale fell through! Thanks for the great service!'

'We've sold 7 engines in 4 months through DieselEngineTrader.com - one to Utah, three to South Dakota, one to New York, one to Kansas and one locally in Wisconsin! I also advertise in other publications but DieselEngineTrader.com gets the best results and at a great price too! I like the way that my engines are shown at the top of Google searches and DieselEngineTrader.com will definitely be playing a major part in my advertising from now on.'
