there is threads on the end of the chamber that screw into the head. if when they were re-sealed at the top with the o-rings and then put in and over tighten it could have pulled the threads out of the head. also if the cooling system had not been good on coolant for a long time it could have eroded the threads and gasket away. they have a kit that lets you drill, tap and thread holes that the threads have pulled out, but you will have to pull the head if you want it done at a shop. could be done in field but then you have travel time and that to pay for, then make sure you get all the material and water out of the cylinder before re-installing chamber.

hey catmech, thanks again! it turns out the chamber is auctually made out of two pieces, which decided to break apart yesterday! i've ordered a new chamber but am not sure of the torque?? 150lbs maybe? any ideas for an easy homemade tool to tighten this in with? i had to weld a large bolt to the 1/2 chamber stuck in the head to unscrew it.

the chamber is two peaces that were spun welded together for simple terms, and are not meant to come apart. have seen this in the past in different chambers over the years.

the tool to put them back in and take them out is part number 5P0125. there are two dowel holes in the chamber that the dowels in the tool fit in. you also need to buy different size washers that fit between the chamber and head to get the glow pug in to a position that is easy to get it in and not be in the way of the rocker arms, at lest I try too. they tell you to put 4s9416 anti-seize on the threads of the chamber, that also help hold the washer on as you put the chamber in the hole. tighten it down to 150 lb.ft. that what the manual says I am looking at. check to see if the glow plug is where you like it. if it is ok , pull the chamber back out put a new o-ring on the chamber they tell you to use soapy water to lube it, put it back in and torque to the 150 lb.ft.
