truck ran hot. notice the temp pegged and shut her down. after refilling the coolant and starting, had light colored smoke and noticed the bubbling in coolant. cap off ran ok, cap on smoke and missing. not sure if there is a weak spot that gives out first but im thinking head gasket. any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated before i tear into her. also i heard you need special tools to set head? is this correct? thanks again.

Pull the head....that's where to start..did you by chance fill the coolant with the engine hot and engine NOT running?? Hmmmmm....3306 in a truck......is this an old orange Preston truck?

P/S......no special tools needed at this point.

i have seen many cement trucks do this from the radiator being clogged up with cement dust. usually the head gasket is blown, sometimes damage to the head and even most of the time the bores need to be cut and shims added.

Is it a direct injected 3306. If it has precups with glow plugs it can leak at the precombustion chamber seat in the head.
No special tools are needed to do a 3306 except for removing the precups.
