I have a 1999 Peterbilt 378 dump truck with a 3406E (500,236 miles). I just drained the coolant and when it was almost all out alittle bit of motor oil (black) drained out at the end. Also, when I removed the coolant filter it smelled of fuel. The truck starts, drives and runs GREAT!!!! I have noticed latey though that the engine runs 200 degrees all day no matter what. It use to get down to 180 if fan was left on, but the lowest it will go now is 200 (climbs as high as 210). I maintain it very well. There is no smell of fuel in the oil and the oil is at peak level and doesnt go down at all........ Oil Cooler and Injecter seals and seat???????? I hope not!!!! HELP!!!! Thanks!!!!

Fuel in coolant is injector tubes and they can be put in with out pulling the head. Then clean and flush the coolant system and watch for oil in the coolant. It has nothen to do with the fuel in the coolant. ost times its the oil cooler leaking.

Thanks a bunch. I was just saying that when I drained the coolant I found oil , small amount, in there. I did, however, put a used radiator in 2 weeks ago that I bought over the internet and didnt flush it out before installing it, was in a hurry to get up and running, dumb idea. So I'm just hoping that the old radiator had alittle oil (and maybe fuel) in it. Are the injector tubes hard to do???? I'm fairly mechanically inclined, so do you think this is something I could do??? Peterbilt said they also would want to do a "overhead"? along with the sleeve and seals. They said that once the injectors are messed with they have to be adjusted, cant just pull them out and slap them back in without any tunning. Is that true too???

Thanks!!!!!

Peterbile is right. You can do them if you been working on cats and have the tool groupe. Its about 8 hr job plus the time to flush and change oil and filters plus the fuel tanks need drained of coolant also.

all of the injectors need to be pulled. injector cups pulled, cleaned and new orings installed. new seals on injectors. run the overhead. new coolant, new coolant filter if your truck has one. new engine oil and filter. drain fuel tanks of any water. check the radiator hoses because if you ran the fuel in the cooling system for any long period of time, it deteriorates the rubber hoses.
