OK, just getting started with this - Peterbuilt Dealership "Lost" top half" of my 3406E REMAN Motor (480,000 miles) I purchased from CAT and had installed in my KW W900L...LONG STOREY. Bottom-Line - I had to go to a backup truck to keep revenue flowing and the outcome is that I am trying to determine the "salvage" value of truck and what is left of motor. Not a mechanic but willing to get serial numbers, take pics etc so as to determine if I have any value here - dont want to put KW back together. I really dont know all of the parts the Peterbuilt dealership "lost" but know for sure the head and injectors. The bottom end is still there along with the Turbo, Compressor and ECM Computer with Dash Display.

This was a re-main motor bought and installed by CAT. Ran REALLY STRONG (Better then my old 550) was well maintained and never got hot. Motor was pulled down due to a blown head gasket. Mechanic discovered issues with the gear train... we got CAT involved because motor was still covered under warranty and CAT was in the process of determing the 'faulty work' from their factory on the gear train issues. Peterbuilt Dealership fired 2 service advisors just as motor was being torn down..paperwork was lost.. they did not communicate with me (I was back out on the road )etc, etc, ... CAT was willing to pick up some of the repairs and I was going to pay the difference and do a rebuild since we already had motor torn down but refused to allow Peterbuilt to do job. When I went to retrieve my truck and motor I was told that they had 'lost' the top half of my motor and that they were not responsable due to the time truck had been in their shop. The truck also had been robbed of stereo, speakers and lots of dash chrome - THIS IS ALL TRUE! When they tried to charge me ovber $2700 for the taerr down and inspection, I had to hire an attorney .... finally got what was left of my truck and motor back after spending $1700 in legal fees. Guess yall didnt need to know any of this but I couldnt stop typing as I re-lived this expensive nightmare.

PLEASE.... if you have any advice at all, please take a moment and help me. I really need to sale this because my "backup truck" is at 1,000,000 miles on a CAT 3406E (435 HP) and I think I should rebuild before it 'grenades' on me.

THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS AND KNOW ANY ADVICE IS MUCH APPRECIATED

The parts you are missing will be exspensive to replace as many have a core value. This will add big to the cost of reassembling the engine. That is amazing that the parts would be lost? WTF I guess one more reason to go only to a Cat Dealer as opposed to an OEM dealer. I wonder if Peterbilt has a dealer Rep that can help you out?

Thanks for the reply... yes, it is amazing Western Peterbuilt 'lost' my parts. Gave up trying to deal with them and thats why attorney got involved. I may still try to recover some of my loss thru legal action but that gets expensive and time consuming....Guess I will keep the ECM with the 550 HP settings, turbo, compressor and ? and then see if I can sale block, crank, etc for 'core' price. Working on collecting a few prices for the 98 KW W900L for parts/scrapp (I just took off tires, inverter and a few misc parts I can use... should have taken whats left of my dash crome and made someones day by giving it away....

I'd contact Peterbilt head office and explain your story. If it really happened like that I can't see head office siding with their dealership (although some people don"t care). It's definitely worth a shot for you. That's a big lost on your behalf especially when the issue with the truck was covered under warranty and now your walking out in the hole... very deep.
