I am in the market for another truck & was wondering about the differences between the two. i have been running a 3406e 5ek engine in a 94 t600 & been very satisfied with it, however it made its last trip on friday & now its time for a new truck. i am wanting to move up in year model & have heard some good things about the isx engines,so i would like to get some other opinions, whether good or bad. my experience with cummins has been in my dodge pickups. thanks

i have had two cats & been very satisfied with both. i was looking at a 2003 t600 with the isx in it when i posted earlier. i went ahead & bought the truck & have been very pleased so far, only time will tell. i am not a detroit fan, that is why i did not consider one.

Had a ISX 485 and have had a coolant leak on the EGR cooler three different times. Fuel mileage was comparable to my C15 cat. I like the lugging power of a cat better.

C15 6nz in the hands of a good owner driver will outlast an isx, pre egr isx,s are just as dear as cat for parts and they wear overhead gear continually , too much crankshaft harmonics for me and they don,t like being uprated to far . New cummins don,t have the longevity of the older series but that,s only my opinion Regards David

I work in the oilfield and these guys are the worst about maintenance. We have had cat, cummins and Detroit 60 series engines and I personally am a big fan of cummins but I cant deny the fact that the detroits(non egr) last many thousands of hours longer that all the others and the prices for parts are about a third less. We just pulled an engine out of service ( that was still running but smoking slightly)with 46 thousand hrs on the Ecm. We bought it used 5 years ago and ran it just about every day since and only changed a couple of injectors a turbo and a water pump.I have been very impressed by these engines.

'I listed a surplus Watermota diesel on DieselEngineTrader. It took a few months to sell, but I was delighted as the engine was quite obscure and I never thought anyone would buy it!'
