I have an 04' Pete with an ISX 475 and at idle it hunts between 600-700 rpm rapidly but seems to smooth out alittle when it warms up. No smoke or CEL. It runs normal when above idle. Any ideas? Thanks for the help!

Pre egr , check fuel pressure - check pulsation damper on pump , pressure regulator - a leaking injector check valve will give you a hunt at idle but will tend to run on for a second when you shut the key off , a fuel actuator with a loose check valve will hunt at idle also some things to think about Regards David

Do you have access to any Cummins software? There are alot of things that can cause this on an ISX as westcoast was saying. If you can get an injector to consistently fail on a cut-out test try that. If you get different injector failures but in the same bank, swap around the metering and timing actuators from front to back and see if the problem follows. If you get an injector failing for overcontribution it, it usually means there is a problem with the previous injector in that bank. For example, your firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4. You have a front and rear bank of three cylinders each. If injector #1 has a problem where is doesn't use all the fuel in the metering and timing chambers, #5 will fire normally, but #3 will receive the fuel that #1 didn't use plus its regular dose. This will tend to give you erratic idle and the ECM will usually not set a code for it. If its any consolation, I work on a large national fleet with 30-40 of these trucks at my location. Almost all of them do this and have for some time with no other noticeable ill effects. Pay attention to the truck running on after you shut the key off westcoast said. Good luck,
marc
