Working with a 1999 Detroit Series 60, not sure what DDEC system it has but I believe it to be one of the two mentioned in the title. I do not have a scanner or Prolink. I retrieved several flash codes from the system through the diagnostic request switch, most of which are somewhat explainable from past engine performance and have probably been remedied. The active code is code 31 which I am not completely familiar with and I am looking for a starting point. The reference sheet I am goin by states; "Aux. high side output open circuit or short to ground". I believe I have determined that this code is in reference to an Aux. output #3 or #4 shorted or open. Now the questions: Where can I locate the Aux. outputs #3 or #4 for a starting point and what are they generally powering? Second I plan on clearing all the codes after the repair to see what may or may not return. I was going to just dissconnect the batteries from the system for a short while. Is this a viable means of clearing the codes and if not how else can it be done without the use of diagnostic equipment ie; scanners, readers? Thanks to anyone who can help out there!

Do you have jake brakes and do they work on all switch operations. CLue: operate on the low side with a fast operation of the throttle pedal. If the yellow light comes on the low or center jake wire is the problem. If the operation is ok, operate the jake system on the #2 setting or high. This allows all 3 jake solenoids to operate and the code should appear. You can test the jake operatiom with the rocker cover off but only if you have a pressure washer handy to clean the mess up after jake operation. The jake solenoids squirt oil up to 3 or 4 feet in the air. Don't ask how I know.
