How does this thing come off?! lol

It looks to me like you have to get the radiator, etc. out of the way but I can't believe they would make it that hard - or would they?

Any ideas, cuz I could sure use the help! The truck is a 2000 volvo, detroit series 60, horton fan clutch.

Thanks!

Without looking at it I would have to say that more times than not, you have to move and remove a lot of things to get enough room to get the fan clutch out. We put a thin piece of rubber in front of the fan and remove it leaving it in the shroud and then work on getting the fan clutch out. Sometimes you have to loosen the radiator and lean it forward which meand disconnecting several things.

I'll tell you what I usually tell a new mechanic......keep taking bolts out until you get to where you need to be.....but remember to put them all back in....good luck.

I didn't think about removing the fan and leaving it in the shroud. That's a good idea.

I carefully sawed the shroud into two pieces, an upper and a lower, (without jamming the end of the saw into the radiator) and removed the upper half easily. At that point, I took the fan and clutch out in one piece.

I made aluminum clamps for each side to reunite the fan shroud into one piece.

Now, if I ever have to remove the fan clutch for any reason, I'll first remove the top half of the shroud and the fan and clutch will slide out sideways without having to remove anything else.
