We have Prevost Motorhome Conversion with this engine and although we use it kina regularly it for sure could be run more.

Very very reliable and runs strong no smoke, just a puff on cold start.

I often go out and run it on high idle (1000rpm) till I get 180 degree water temp when there are some long spans between trips.

When on high idle I get a significant amount of oil out the small down tubes and twice out the drivers side than the pass. I catch it in glass jars so I know.

If after it is warmed up but before we head out on a trip I drain the canisters I can then go thousands of miles with just a trace showing up in the containers, almost nothing.

Can I expect to continue to be able to run it like this for a long time to come or is it telling me something.

Also on high idle the oil will also drip from the exhaust clamps as well all going away when underway

I run straight 40wt oil with lucas at suggested service intervals (or at least once a year weather it needs it or not)

Everything sounds normal to me.....long idle periods aren't the greatest for your engine. There are two different theory's on this. First is what you are doing by starting it occasionally and I don't think you are helping your engine much. Second is not running it at all until you are going to put it to work, and that to me depemds on how long it has sat. The best thing is to take it out on the road and running it long enough to get the oil hot enough to eliminate moisture that is trapped in the oil.
