I started a new string from the V92 leaker cause this is something completely different.

If you read my previous post you know I've got my heads off and oil pan out, anyway I just found a lot of plastic or nylon chunks in my oil pan, at first I thought it was pieces of a connecting rod, but there fairly light, solid black about 3/8" thick and no more than 3/4" at the widest point (there broken pieces of something) What the hell?

I only cleaned up three of the pieces , there are more smaller pieces still in the pan.
I scraped the pieces a little and they are yellowish white plastic.

It will be from an old gear driven alternator - fibre coupling (rear mount alternator or auxillary drive ) Regards David

I hope the 50dn is not bad those things weigh at least 250lbs. I should know I have three of them that I need to put on shelves, but have been putting it off along with a few heads that will never be put away either, should I pull the generator? It is charging good, or do you think it's just leftover junk from the old engine, they replaced at least 40 engines at the same time, maybe cleaning up oil pans were not on there priority list?
Ken

A coupling can break up and still drive - but usually when it breaks some of it ends in the sump causing no harm and won,t get removed until somebody removes sump Regards David

The only other thing that I have ever seen that is plastic in the pan was an in pan oil heater.

I just opened a 50dn repair kit, no nylon or plastic parts and the generator is all solid metal plus a few oil seals, the stator is all metal too, maybe the rotor, but I think it's all metal too?

I'll disassemble one someday and figure this thing out, it wouldn't surprise me if someone didn't throw trash in the oil pan while it was out at ABQ RIDE.

If your alternator is mounted on rear of blower drive it will have a fibre coupling , you don,t get a coupling in your seal kit - if your alt is mounted on auxillary drive it,ll be gear drive -any other auxillary belt drives will have a fibre coupling Reagrds David

I need t learn Australian!
You were right Westcoast, I just went out and looked at the mount, scraped the silver paint with a knife and sure enough, yellowish white nylon or plastic!
That was bothering me very bad, not knowing and just speculating on what those pieces were, thank you Westcoast, I had just assumed the generator had a paper or rubber gasket just because it is a gear drive.
