Hello,,I have a 2002 14 ltr engine in a Freightliner . It was slowly loosing power week by week till I could stand it anymore!! The fuel pressure is good, filters ,lines and the turbo ,air cooler and power to the ecm all have been checked and i tried a ecm as well.I use to have 40 lbs of boost and now im down to less than 20.It didnt happen all the sudden,,it was slow.Changed the fuel fitting and check valve on the return line and even ran the engine with the both fuel lines in a bucket of fuel to check for air ,,none. It is hard to start even if ya just shut it down for a minuate. .Changed injectors with new o rings,,nothing,,..I checked the manifold temps at each exhaust port with a temp lazer and found the first three are about half the temp of the last three at idol and 1200 rpm . I removed the valve cover and jake and shorted the injectors out one by one and the front ones are makeing little to no difference in the front three but a big difference in the last . Have no idea what to check next accept to see how big of fire it will make. lol THX Tricked

You can have someone 'pop test' them since this all that can really be done w/o a complete rebuild facilities, however since you have changed the 'O' rings why not blow the fuel out of the head and swap all 3 from the front to the rear and visaversa. Perform a good tuneup properly useing the overlash procedure and retest. If they change to the rear then just get a reman set of injectors and be done with it.

Maybe an electronics tec can help with this. When I was trying to find the problem with the front three cyls of my 2002 14 ltr engine,,I took a piece of house wire, stripped of the coating, black taped it to a 2 foot piece of plastic and touched it across the wires connected to each of the 6 injectors one at a time with the engine running. The rear 3 cut the cyl completely out (dead miss) but the front three ,,it does not kill the cyl. It makes little difference at all. If i take my wire and short each front cyl to grond it kills the cyl . To mee this seams like a wireing problem.I did as Gonefishen said and swopped injectors and it didnt change anything !! What do you think?? Tricked

Was it a good ecm you swapped with ? if so you,ve got a harness problem in the grey connector ( front of ecm ) - wire 611 is injector No1 -wire 615 is injector No 2 - wire 613 is injector No 3 - wire 619 is injector common - check both fuses to make sure there is no corrosion on them and the grey connector wire 619 will probably have rubbed through Regards David

Thank you West Coast,,I an going to pull harness completely out of back of cyl head and check that. Im hopeing thats the problem!! I dont know what else to do!! I know if they got the cam gear out one tooth the power and turbo pressure will be down and hard to start but that dosent explane why only the front three manifold temps are only half the rear three.Would they not all still be close or could it still be cam timing out 1 tooth retarded?? One more thing,,,Just how big would the fire be anyway ?? thx,,,,,,Tricked

Forgot this,,,Someone said the power wires join together a few feet from the computer and carrie on to the battery in one power and one ground wire each.If this were true and the fuse was burnt how could the truck still start with no power to the ecm? or ground? Is that true or someone just thinks it is?

On a DDEC 3/4 engine the 5 pin has 2 hot leads and 3 ground leads. Blowing 1 of the power fuses wil not allow 3 injectors to fire. Cyl's 1,2,3 are 1 fuse and same for 4,5 6. Yes the engine will run like &*(^%$%#%^ on 3 cylinders. Use a v/o meter to check the voltage on the 5 pin connector. Next is to disconnect the 2 wire harnesses on the front side of the ecm. Black and grey. peal back the wire covering and look for damaged wires and worn insulation. Peel back 18" of loom. repair wiring. Sounds like an electrical problem.

New info about problem,,,For some reason it seams when I go down a long hill ,,after I reach the bottom and just start to power up again its like the engine starts missing and blue white smoke rolls out the exhaust like crazy. If I stop the engine after a hiway trip ,,even if only for a minuate or two,,when i take off again,mt or loaded,, at a certian spot in the fuel pedal, the smoke starts,,along with missing,,but if i hold the pedal in the bad spot for a sec or two it clears up and its just as if ya turned on a switch,,the smoke and miss goes away !! Throttle and harness where already replaced cause I thought the same as you,,bad sensor ,,but it didnt change anything!! Went to a freightliner dealer and had a test ecm programed for my engine and truck year so specs would be the exact ones for that engine and still the same problem.Frnt cyls down on power, low turbo boost, and minafold still colder in front 3 then rear three!! Never seen the likes of this s**t !! Oh yea,,case ur wondering,,,not using antifreeze or pressure in rad ,,or oil either !!! F***********************K !!!!!!!

You still have a fuel pressure problem. Get a fuel pressure guage and install it AFTER the secondary fuel filter and go for a ride loaded. AFTER the S filter, I want actual pressure to the head. If this is a DDEC 3/4 engine you must no lower than 45 at full load at 1300 rpm. Better 50 but check it. AFTER the S filter. If you check it before you are basically checking fuel pump pressure. I want pressure TO the head. The filter will affect readings.
