Have a 6V92 in a 1989 Fire Truck. Been experiencing a significant power loss. It came on suddenly. Now, even taking it up a very gentle grade, if you don't get a running start it won't even make it. It won't stall, but the engine will sit there and try to push, but not go anywhere. Transmission shows no problems. In neutral engine will go all the way to 2800 RPM. With the parking brake set and in gear, engine tops out around 1100 with no power.

-Turbo is operational
-New fuel and air filter

Thinking the injectors may be clogged or just on their way out. Any ideas?

Is this an electronic or manual controlled engine? Since it is a fire truck, the chassis could be a year or two older than the year model of the truck so it could still be manually controlled governor or electronic. If it is manual, check for linkage operation to full fuel when the pedal is on the floor. If it is electronic, it could be the foot controller. Fire trucks get washed a lot and I have seen many foot controllers go bad on them.

It's a custom cab fire truck from E-One. It's a rear-mount engine, and by the looks of it it would be electronically controlled as there is not any linkage running from the front of the cab to the rear of the truck where the engine is at. Will check the foot pedal controller for proper operation.

But with the throttle being responsive through the full range except when the engine is under load, wouldn't it seem that the pedal controller is still operational? Even under load, the throttle is responsive, just no power on the low end. Would the pedal controller possibly signal an improper position when fully depressed, giving the appearance of the engine cycling with the proper fuel amount when not under load, but then losing power? Similar to a bad TPS?

Just wanting to make sure I'm following you. Gas engines, I'm good, diesels, I'm fairly new to.
