confused
Recently rebuilt one of 100 series engines (4500 hrs, using oil, lack of power) in a excavator . On stripping the engine down the problem appeared to be siezed / gummed up piston rings . On rebuilding , I honed cylinders out , new std pistons and rings . Examined the head / valves appeared ok , lapped valves and put new valve oil seals on inlet valves (where they came off).

Since rebuiling, the oil consumption has increased , power problem has been sorted . THe oil consumption is down to the fact that oil is coming out of the manifold through the silencer and out of the exhaust .

My question is should this engine have a full set of valve seals ,should they be loctited on to stems ,if not has anyone got any clues (perkins recommend running on maximum load to bed in )

Has anyone had any success in rebuilding this type of engine

Thanks in advance

besides checking bore wear, did you check piston to bore clearance?,
did you check ring gaps in the bores? are valve guides worn?.
also check that valve stem seals are a good fit on valve stem and that they are located
correctly on tops of guides.

We have rebuilt a few of these. If you do not bore them they usually will not do well. It is sometimes just as cheap to replace the complete unit. We are a Perkins Master Dealer and have sold many of these engines. Let us know if we can assist you.
