12.7 High idle with brakes released

Hello, been reading here for quite awhile but just recently joined.

I'm an owner op running local with a day cab doing mostly roll off work. (I must live close to Stump, I live in Lexington, NC.) What I'm needing to figure out is how to get the truck to high idle without any brakes on. I'm wanting this because when the containers are heavy, it's best to roll the truck and trailer up under the can, then flip the trailer brake switch mounted by the controls so it won't get away from you. Mine won't high idle like this so you can imagine that it takes forever at low idle.

The reason I put this in the Detroit section is I'm wondering if this is controlled in my DDEC III ecm? Or do I need to do something else? I know some trucks do this and others don't. I'm not sure why. Truck is listed in sig. Thanks.

This might be something to look at, on my 1996 Western Star I know there is a pressure switch behind the dash on the black plastic body of the parking brake / trailer supply valve, the red and yellow buttons. Has a couple wires coming out of it and I'm guessing it is signaling the ECM when the brakes are released. If yours is setup that way as well, maybe you could overide it. Just an idea.

That was my original thought and I'm thinking that's what I need to do if it can't be changed in the programming.

If I do this, I'm thinking that I need to wire in a toggle switch. My understanding is that it looks at this switch to make sure the brakes are set before allowing high idle. But I also think that it looks to make sure the brakes are released before allowing the cruise to function. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Yes Scraphauler we're not very far apart I live in Cornelius over near Lake Norman. I keep my truck down in Rock Hill,Sc and pull chemical tankers out of Central SC down by Clemson.

No I would think you could do something with the park brake switch and install a toggle.I'sd have to see a wiring diagram to see what is activated /deactivated when brake is set. My truck is a 95 Pete 379 Red with swoop stripes I am leased to Langer Transport. Truck is Faded ,isnt pretty but makes money!

I heard that!

I'll check into the toggle option. Maybe use the switch on my wetline controls? It is supposed to light up a little red led to let you know that the PTO is engaged but I installed myself and didn't hook it up.
