I have a 12V71 that is making excessive bluish grey smoke from both
of the breathers. Head gasket ?????

HI Don, Thanks for the reply.

The engine is in a terex off highway scraper.
We have noticed a little oil consumption but not more than
1 1/2 gal in 10 hrs. No overheating problem so far, and no
loss of power. Nor any noticeable abnormal engine noise.
As of today we have stopped running the machine and I have
been investigating a little further. I will change the engine oil
and filters tomorrow and see if that will clear it up any.
Will keep you posted.

Hi,
did you say 1 and 1/2 gal of oil in 10 hours?????
how often is it being topped up??
are there any external oil leaks ?
if possible take off a airbox inspection cover and look at rings see if there is excessive wear in ring grooves and top rings for wear.

I would look for an oil leak somewhere. Unless your losing power or something thats out of the norm on the performance end, then you need to look a little deeper. But for now, if your only losing the oil, try to find where its leaking from
