Good day all.

I have owned this 1999 FL70 truck for 9 years now, drive it 5 days a week, truck weighs 24,500, it has a small crane mounted on if for sign installations.

I travel the same roads everyday and I have lost about 5 or so miles per hour when topping hills. Losing enough that I am now having to drop down a gear to climb the same hills that I have been doing for years.

It has been like this for 6 weeks or so now.

I replaced fuel filters twice and replaced the air filter.

No smoke out of the exhaust at all, hot or cold. No strong fuel fumes at the exhaust. Starts without hesitation, hot or freezing out side, plugged in or not.

I have read posts here on the 3126 for a couple of days hoping to get a good feel for what to look for.

The truck starts and runs good. It will run out to max rpm on flat or down hill, pulls consistently through the rpm range. But very sluggish up hill or into head wind.

I know that in the past when climbing some hills, I would hear the turbo sound like it increased boost after the motor was under full load for a minute or so. I do not hear that sound any more. The turbo wines but only at higher rpm. I can not hardly hear the turbo under 1500. This may not be relevant but I did not want to leave anything out.

I looked at the turbo hoses but not extensively.

I am a owner operator, I do not have the equipment to check technical parts. The truck has been good to me, I put rod/main bearings in it shortly after I bought it. Had a starting issue due to the two pick up sensors 3 years ago or so.

Any guidance you can offer me will be greatly appreciated.

Two things come to mind to check...or have checked first. Loss of oil pressure or loss of fuel pressure. That would be my starting point. ------------------------- One of the last 2 Stroke mechanics left. 44 years in the business and worked on everything from 53 series to 149 series. Winding it down now...time to move on.

Still have not figured out what is wrong.

We had one really warm night and 85 degree day, the truck ran like normal the best I could tell.

Not sure why or if it was just coincidence.

The only thing I could think of is that the fuel would be thinner, not sure why this would make a change.

Heading out to Jackson MS from Tennessee Thursday morning.

Not wanting to go out of town but you have to go where the money is.

Any Ideas?
