I have a 2006 Freightliner Columbia that has a DDEC V in it and my customer was loading corn and when he got in truck it quit. Wouldn't start.
Ran laptop on it and had injector response times for all 6 injectors and shorted to ground for all six injectors. Truck would not start. It was late in the day and customer stated to go home and come back next day. Customer then went and ordered a new ECM for his truck. Called in morning and said come when it comes in. ECM came in and plugged into truck and it started right up. Customer drove truck 10 miles and it started to miss and kept getting worse and finally quit running. Went back and ran laptop and all 12 faults were back. Unplugged the engine harness and inspected all connections and plugged back in and truck started. He brought to our shop and ran fine which is around 20 miles away. Let run outside and truck died again. Used headlight and checked all power and grounds going to ECM and all was good. If you unplug the fuse truck will eventually start. Talked with Freightliner numerous times and also to Detroit numerous times and they advised to replace the engine and injector harness, Replaced both and truck still does the same thing. Didn't really see anything in harness that was bad.
Truck quit the other day and wouldn't start at all and used a different ECM from another truck and it started right up. Plugged the ECM in that customers truck and it ran with this ECM. I have no other ideas of where to go and any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

One of the injector solenoids has a dead short. Have had this happen before. Really no good way to tell except when truck won't start, unplug one injector at a time and try to start, when it does start you have found your culprit.

I asked Freightliner and Detroit about that and they said it wouldn't be that. What your saying makes complete sense, why if you unplug the fuse or the engine harness and plug back in does it start.

You are welcome. You would not of thought that I was a genius about 8-9 years ago when this first happened to me. I don't think even a real genius knows all of the cuss words that I spit out that day.

I know exactly what you mean. This thing has been a pain in my arse for quite awhile now. Sometimes I wish it was still early 2000 or before back when doing this was fun.
