I have a 1996 Safari Sahara Motor Home. It's a pusher. Coming home I could not get up enough RPM to shift out of 4th gear. Got home, I changed both fuel filter and water separator filter . It was hard to start, but Once started it ran great. Drove it 22 miles with no problems. Parked it in the garage and two weeks later I went to start it. She spins great but will only start with a shot of either . It runs with fast idle till the normal idle come in and then she stops . She will not start again without either. Battery fool charged. I get a code 55 which said no fault found. Someone said same thing happen to him. He was getting a false reading. He changed the speed sensors and his problem fix. I changed both speed sensors . Not my problem. I pump the primer bulb till it is very hard. I hit the starter button and the primer bulb is soft again. I bled the air out of the filters and before the injector pump. She will still not start. She has 81,000 miles on her. Oh, when I changed the water separator filter I found a small amount of black slime under that Lil rubber flap under the separator filter after unscrewing the see through bowl.
I do not know where to turn now . Can anyone help this poor old Vietnam War Veteran smile again ? Thank you my friends for reading this post.

I assume that when you turn on the key you get a check engine light and stop engine light indicating the Ecm is powering up. If you believe the Ecm is not firing the injectors, due to loss of engine speed timing sensor or some other type of electronic issue. You can purchase a Voltage Detector and hold it up to the wiring going into the valve covers. When the injectors fire during cranking it will set of the voltage detector. That would rule out any type of sensor, or electronic issue. It sounds like a fuel issue or possibly an issue with the HUIE pump. Need an engine serial number.

I am thinking you are just not getting fuel. Is it possible to have someone pumping the hand priming pump while you crank the engine. Pump should be hard to push in if you have good fuel pressure. There are multiple places to install a fuel pressure gauge to verify the fuel pressure while cranking. Remember if you replaced the speed timing sensor be sure the black white wire set is connected to the top sensor and the blue yellow set to the bottom. If you have good fuel pressure you need to verify the ECM is firing the injectors. With out a computer to connect to the engine you will need a voltage detector or ohm meter to check for power going to the injectors. If there is power all the electronic systems are functioning as they should. The next step is to install a pressure guage in the injector oil galley and check the HUIE oil pressure. This may be out of your capabilities.

I replace the speed sensors and unplug and plugged the sensors one at a time, but I will go back and check. This is a Safari RV. I can pump the bulb and hit the external starter switch ate the same place and the same time. There is a starter button, gauges, fuel and water separator filters and primer bulb all in an outside compartment near the right rear of the RV. The air intake is next to this compartment also. Good planning went into building this RV, but they didn't have a mechanic come with it . Ain't that something ? I own a one man Custom Upholstery Shop in Louisiana . I'm just getting started to learn about diesel motors. I've worked on gas sense I, 17 years old.Thank you so much for the info.
