Yours is a bit more complicated. You need a timing plate to set it. I just did one and I believe the plate number is 5P0143. You have to take the pump off the drive housing. If you buy the tool from Cat, they will print out step by step instructions.

I haven't bought onein years, but I would think maybe $70. Most Cat tools are fairly reasonable. You might get one of the shop guys to lend you theirs......worth a try.

Cat wants $142 for the tool, do you have one? Do you think I could just take my pump in to Cat and have them do it? Can it be locked? or maybe just marked? How about if I use the process of elimination here? (we are getting pretty quick at pulling the pump) will it eventually land in the right spot? I can detect when it squirts fuel out of #1 but it seems like the coupler is always turned wrong to hang it back on the access. drive. Your help is appreciated. Thanks for your time.

When you initally took the pump off, at what point did you unbolt it? I believe you could set it like the old Macks and a pressurized can of fuel. You would turn it in the normal direction of travel and stop it when the fuel flowed from number one delivery. Maybe you could get one of the mechanics at Cat to do it on the side or give them something for the use of the tool. It's worth a try asking the service manager......maybe they would lend you the plate.

'We've sold a number of engines via DieselEngineTrader.com - even some that we've had lying around for a few years! It's very useful in getting our inventory seen by a much larger market.'

'I listed a surplus Watermota diesel on DieselEngineTrader. It took a few months to sell, but I was delighted as the engine was quite obscure and I never thought anyone would buy it!'
