Hello. I'm new to this and I'm actually doing this for my husband. I don't have alot of details (ie: miles, year, etc.) but can get them if needed. He asked me to find out if anyone knew what could be going on. He has a 60 Series that is putting oil out the exhaust (when idling) and it's also blowing blue smoke while the jake is in use and while idling. Does anyone know where to start? Thanks.

my 60 series did the oil slobber also. need to bump idle to around 1000 when idling so it dont slobber so bad. might help with the other issues as well. but alot depends on year, miles, etc.

Thanks so much for the reply. I have passed on the information. I did get you some more information also. It's a 99 and has very recently been overhauled due to a cracked block. It's got under 1000 miles on it right now..in fact, this was the 1st trip with it when these new issues surfaced.

was the turbo also put on new? i'd watch it close, with only that few of miles could still be an internal issue.

I'm not sure about the turbo. I don't think it was changed, but I'll ask. By "internal" issues...what do you mean? He and his mechanic are really stumped on this one.

Cracked block? Run the engine under a load for a short trip. Cool down for 2 minutes. remove the exhaust manifold and start the truck back up. Be sure to block off the oil supply line to the turbo. Any slobber might be a broken oil ring or a ring installed upside down. [seen this recently]. A bad turbo will also slobber a bit. Any idling should always be done at 900 rpm to 1k rpm. Run the hell out of the engine to seat the rings. Never baby a diesel. Work helll out of them, then cool down for 5 minutes after a good run.

Thanks for the info. I've passed this on. His own mechanic (in house) hasn't been the one doing the work on this one. When I read to him about the ring being upside down he thought that might be it. He's going to tell the man to start with that. Thanks again and I'll let you know if that worked!smile
