I have a 35 ton P&H Rough Terrain crane with a 6V53. It is around a late 1970’s vintage. The crane operated very well at sea level and just went through certification in flying colors. We just sent it up to approx. 8500 ft. above sea level and it can hardly drive across the parking lot. It has no power. All filters were just replaced, no wheels are hung up and it does put out some black smoke.

I’m assuming that this problem is from the high altitude, but I do not know what to do. It does not have a turbo and I do not know if adding one will really make a difference.

Any ideas or recommendations??????????????

Thank you very much for any “constructive comments” There are some very nice vertical canyons where it is, but as tempting as it is we ruled that out as an option.

If you also want to call, you can reach me at 310-261-5282

Thx,
Larry

try removing the air filter and running the engine, it might b restricting air flow.

Thank you. We tried this and did not help. All filters are new.
