greetings,

i have installed a 2nd fuel system (tank, lines, electric pump, filters) to run vegetable oil in my '83 blazer.
the truck is switchable from diesel to veg via a 6-port electric switch. this is all working, but i need some information to help me optimize it.

1. what should the fuel pressure be to the injection pump? the electric lift pump that i installed provides about 7psi.

2. when i'm running the electric pump, the stock mechanical pump is still cranking, but not moving any fuel,
since the valve downstream is closed. is this going to hurt the mechanical pump, or anything else?

3. the 2nd tank i installed had no return line, so i had to plumb one in. it drops the return fuel in at the top
of the tank (above the fuel line). where does the return fuel enter the tank in the stock system? above the fuel line
or below? does it matter?

thanks in advance. i appreciate your attention.

what an amazing project you've got on the go! props to ya

here's my two cents to your questions.

the lift pump- will it get damaged? my thoughts are "yes"..... simply because the unless there's an allowance for the vaccum of the pump then there will be a strain on the diaphragm/clap valve.
this would be much the same as if you kept trying to pull a syringe while plugginthe end of it.

of course the only way to be sure is to remove the pressure side when you decide to run fuel back through the lift pump some time and if she pumps, then i guess no harm done smile

(it'd be nice to see someone else's comments on this matter)

Elec. Pmp PSI- 7 pounds is all that should be necessary.

Fuel return line- Having the return line coming in on the top won't do any harm....the only thing you'd have to worry about is cavitation forming, and there's really nothing for pressure (2-3psi) to cause a stir in the tank.
I think you're safe there. wink
