i plow snow with my 7.3 and after running the engine for anywhere from 1 to 5 hours the engine will not accellerate. i can plow a lot at low speeds but once the problem starts i cannot drive to my next stop. this problem only happens in the winter. i have taken it in numerous times with no luck fixing the problem. any suggestions?

Did either of you notice the oil pressure when this was happening? Seeing the "power stroke" engines use engine oil that runs through a high pressure pump to force the fuel through the injectors it either has to do with the oil, the fuel, or the electric solenoids that open and close to allow injection.
How is your oil: age, condition, level, pressure?
Fuel: New or sitting a while, is there any water in it?, Fungi?
Solenoids: Have you had any fault codes? Have you had the mechanic test them?

ENGINE OIL IS NEW (1500 MILES), OIL PSI GOOD. I THINK OIL PSI SENDER IS AN ON / OFF SWITCH NOT VARIABLE. REPLACED CAM SENSOR AND VALVE COVER GASKETS (HIGH FAILURE ITEMS) HAD A CAM SENSOR CODE, CLEARED IT AND DROVE. NO CODES UNTIL IDLING FOR A FEW HOURS. P1670 IDM CODE. (TOO EXPENSIVE TO JUST TRY IT). INJECTORS OHM AT 2.8 OHMS EACH (I HAVE NO SPEC) REPLACED FUEL FILTER, DRAINED WATER (NONE) AND NOTICED SMALL METAL FILINGS. (FUEL PUMP ?)

I FIXED IT. REPLACED FUEL PUMP, REMOVED A LOT OF SAND FROM FUEL TANK, FLUSHED FUEL SYSTEM AND REPLACED FILTER AGAIN. FUEL CAP HAD BEEN MISSING AND REPLACED A WHILE AGO I'M TOLD . THIS INFO WOULD HAVE BEEN HELPFUL A FEW MONTHS AGO. ANYWAY THIS TRUCK IS NOW OFFICIALLY FIXED.

We have a 2002 Ford Powerstroke 7.3 and it is doing the same thing. I was driving the other day and it just lost power. I changed the fuel filter and was able to drive it for about 10 mile. Then I left from there to head home and it did it again. I stopped for about 5 minutes then restarted and drove about 20 miles home and it didn't act up again. That night I drove it to work and it did it again.
Thank you to Proper because I gave your info to my mechanic and he is going to take a look at it.
