I am new and typed all this in and rejected pasword?? any way. I saw a thread in ford section and the similar symtom and the cause was 1 1/2 qts low on lube oil I wonder I know the engine oil press has to power up the HPOP but I have 40 psi almost imediatly on cranking,so i disregarded the 1/4 inch low on the dip stick. I have 200rpm at crank,good vol. of fuel at filter spicket,and a bypassed glow plug relay and the plugs are pulling amps but not a dead short. I will try the oil tommorow and repost . I have dash codes

You need the oil level to be correct. 1/4 inch low is 2 quarts. remove the oil plug on the hpop reservior and check to see that oil is about an inch fron the top. check that you have 500psi on the hpop during cranking. most scanners do not show rpm acuratly during cranking but you need at least 150rpm to activate the ipr. no hpop pressure means bad crank sensor or bad ipr, could also have bad ipr sensor(skewed reading). Did this problem just start or has it had a starting problem for some time now?

40psi at cranking but no IPR... Most likely you need a new HPP... Remove the old pump and you will find the gear lose on the shaft. (very common).. You can try to tighten it back up but It will lossen back up again, and again. "locktight" doesn't work either.
