I was reading in a different forum about advancing the cam gear one tooth for a horsepower/fuel mileage gain. Some guys said it worked great, others said not to do it. I'm wondering if anyone here has tried it and if so, what were the results?

I have heard of this being done. Most of the time guys do this when their cams read at the low end of detroit specs. In cases like that advancing one tooth can bring them back up to the higher side of factory specs. There was one guy i knew who advanced them as far as he could without getting the valves too close to the pistons. That's something you do at your own risk though

'Listed a Perkins T6.354 on DieselEngineTrader and sold it after 5 month. With a listing fee of $5.00 per month and no commission, it was much cheaper and more effective than the magazine we also used.'
