Just purchased a GM PD 4104 Bus which is equipped with a DD 6/71. The main 2 questions are as follows:

1) Whenever I step on the accelerator (during acceleration)) , black smoke can be seen out of the exaust. Under normal cruising (at any speed) and when not accelerating....the smoking subsides. Is this normal for a 6/71 2 stroke engine??

2) I've notice that the temparature of the engine rises when under load (climbing a hill, flooring the accelerator for 5 minutes) and this only at near top end speeds (in this case 65 mph). The temp gauge can read 200 - 220 degrees. As soon as I let off the gas a little (drop 10 mph or so) the temp gauge drops back to aprrox 180 degrees . When i'm at idle... the engine temp drops to about 120 degrees (even after a 3 hr run or so). email

Thanks for the response Don...I was told that the mileage on the this rebuild is approx 40,000 (can't be sure cause no odometer or hour meter exists in this unit).
I will go have the unit checked by a Diesel Mechanic....thanks for the info.....

'DieselEngineTrader.com is a very good resource. I use it to search for engines I need and have also advertised a Volvo Penta engine and received some genuine enquiries. Our local market is small and DieselEngineTrader.com helps me to reach a worldwide market.'

Dimitris Constantinou, Limassol, Cyprus

'We sold a Turbo in 2 weeks to a guy in Houston! We also sold the first engine we listed - an old Hatz. It took 2 months to sell but that was OK as we couldn't move it locally. We track visitors to our website and we get lots from DieselEngineTrader.com. Your website really works, it's a great service and we'll be using DieselEngineTrader.com for years to come!'

Brad Marcak, Powerpro Texas, USA

'I had hundreds of "hits" on your website which generated 5 or 6 inquiries from all over the world; Germany, The Philippines, Korea, Sweden, and Spain. I sold all 3 of my engines to a buyer from South Korea. Your website was invaluable to me in selling these engines; no other ads that I ran produced any inquiries.'
