I have a running 1934 Diamond T stake body truck that I want to put back to work on a regular basis. It would be doing a 20 mile loaded trip (11,000 pounds) four times a day. Right now it does the job okay but uses about 19 gallons of gas per day. Does anyone have any advice or info on which detroit diesel would be appropiate to substitute for the Buda gas engine. Also how big a job is a swap to diesel. It has been suggested that the Lipe Clutch that I have is a direct fit on 4 or 6-71???
Thanks for your input.confused

Hi,
a Detroit 453 may be a better option depending on the distance you have between radiator and gearbox!!!
nothing will be easy, it will pay you to clear out the whole engine bay to make refitting another type of engine simpler..

hi we need more information on the gas engine you want to replace but there are a number of things to consider, gear ratio would be my first concern as the 71 series top out at 2300 rpm, also the radiator has to be large enough to keep engine cool, then there is the exaust, air intake, fuel lines, possible extra batterys. Still it is possible just have to do your research. FYI the 71 series is available in a V-model as well as inline 6- V- 71, 8-V-71 good luck Gary
