Well again, I am no expert.
So was the the surface of the head cut when you told them to" fix it"? If so, you are going to have to set the back lash because the cam gear is now lower than it was.
I can tell you how I set mine because I didn't have the tool to do it and I wanted to replace the bull gear bearings reseal the gear case anyway.
Take the front cover off line up all the marks on the gears.
I just rolled strips of paper ( if I remember right it wasn't real thin but like that of quality letter paper) into all the gear meshes at the same time, and tighten the idler down.
Roll the paper back out and check your lash with a dial indicator. Mine came out perfect the first time, that was around 4 years ago, no problems.

Removing the front cover would also be a good time to give your bull gear bearings a looking at.

If you don't already have a service manual, I would highly recommend getting one!

Hopefully Westcoast will respond a be more helpful Wayne

'DieselEngineTrader.com was the first place I went to sell my engine and I started hearing from people as soon as the engine was posted. I got 8 inquiries in 10 days and sold it to a guy in Virginia.'

'DieselEngineTrader gives us the opportunity to broaden our sales coverage at very reasonable cost. We sold an International 7.3 to Florida for an advertising cost of only $15.00'

'I had hundreds of "hits" on your website which generated 5 or 6 inquiries from all over the world; Germany, The Philippines, Korea, Sweden, and Spain. I sold all 3 of my engines to a buyer from South Korea. Your website was invaluable to me in selling these engines; no other ads that I ran produced any inquiries.'
