2001 W/star with a 6NZ. Took in to have overhaed ran. Picked up truck after hours. In the mechanics report this was was written "Noticed cam lobes & rollers on #2 & #3 injectors are galling" can anyone explain what "Galling" is?

Galling is slight wear,it kind of looks like very very fine surface cracking it can be caused by lubrication and or heat or just in the hardness or lack thereof on the cam lobes or the rollers on the rocks arms.

Definately a worry point......galling is metal coming off the cam and rollers....metal from the cam and rollers is harder than bearing material and some will get past the filter and cause premature wear on rod and main bearings...cam bearings .......turbo..... and on and on....also as the cam and rollers wear, you lose your valve adjustment.

Just working on a Cat 312 with the same galling on the rollers. It's time for a cam and rollers right NOW. Believe me. Do you have facebook? I can show you pics.
