Hi, i have a (2) Detroit Diesel 4-53 with 1.52.1 transmisions, in a Chris Craft Commander 33'. I dink that this motors are to small (Hp) for this boat. It run full trotter 2,000rpm at 9.5kts, with 21x17 propellers. They have bilge blowers trowing air to the silencers, they have n-53 injectors.

How could i make it faster?

One of them are spilling oil from the top of the dip-stick?

Thanks....

oil coming out the top of the dipstick could mean your crankcase vent is plugged. It may also be worn rings causing pressure to build up in the base. just some ideas

Hi,
are they turbo or nat asp motors??
are they 2 valve or 4 v heads??

Well those motors should be capable of running up to 2800 RPM full load..
pay you to check those injector numbers again as that is not a detroit number should be N50 or N45..

where are the bilge blowers picking up their air from ??? the enging room in general??
need to know a bit more to help with improving your situation..

Hi,
a loss of 800 rpm is far too much it should be under 100 rpm and closer to the noload if possible.
do you know what props you have on???
i would look at getting a bit of help from a prop guy he will want to know.
Prop size you have
length of boat
weight of boat
water length of boat,
engine HP
gear ratio
engine rpm noload and load
speed you are achieving with the present setup.

Hi, again, boat status:

Chris Craft Commander 33" 12,500 pounds, 12'1" whith, 2'9" draft, water line 30'

(2) Detroit Diesel 4-53 (136hp) with 300 hours.
Transmision 1.50.1
Propellers 21x17 bronze (3) blades
Cleranse from the tip of the shaft to the bottom of the boat 11.75"

This boat once had a pair of Crusaders 454, it has a top speed of 30mph, the the motor was change for this DD and now it has a top speed (full trotter) of
10kts with a full trotter of 2,000rpm.

I dink that the governors had to be adjusted to get better speed with a load up to 2,600rpm. With no load right know goes up to 2,800.

Hi,
if you are getting 2800 rpm noload everything sounds like it is set right ..
those motors are only 128 SHP @ 2800 that is the HP you need to quote.
but first i would be looking at your props that is what would be keeping your load rpm down ..
do you have a prop guy near you??
where are you anyway??

Hi,
doesnt work that way if the motor is coming up to no load rpm then the load that is applied to it is too great to allow the engine to rev to its load rpm, you have to relieve the load on the engine to allow this. IE:- take off pitch and/or diamere of the prop!!

Hi,
just proves my point it is your props that are at fault.
havent you a prop guy in your locallity?
you cant just add a turbo to those engines they require quite a few changes to do so.
re injectors read comments in detroit help on web site.
