I'm working on this 95 6.5 and i've just re and re'd the pump with an exchange unit.

When it came in the customer's complaints were simply that it was hard starting, and running rough at idle. (big surprise for a clapped out chevy/stanadyne unit)

Now with the new pump on, it's reading on my snap-on scanner that there's a multi-cylinder imbalance. sad

Every cylinder is reading an imbalance. wtf?

I thought the pump might be taking in air,so i put a clear hose on the return side of the pump and to my great dissapointment, there's NO air in the pump.

It doesn't matter what way i turn the pump , either. wether i advance it or retard it/left or right, i can't seem to clear the smoke. ...and it's got the miss in the idle.

I can't see any leaks, and the connectors all seem to be hooked up.

anyone?

tia guys wink

If it weren't for chevy diesels, i'd go broke!

I am sure this sounds stupid, but the line to line gear marks are lined up, right? This sounds like a timing prob. Also the timing chains in those after many hours can be as many as 6 degrees out of time. If the marks are right, you might need to move a tooth left or right of the mark to get the pump to time. I have replaced the pump in two 6.2's that I had move the line one tooth to time the pump.
