Hi -

My 1998 24V is having issues when hot with starting. When it's cold there isn't a problem - it fires right up after the glow plugs have done its thing. However it takes a half dozen cranks or more when the engine is hot. The engine runs just perfectly - no sputtering, no weirdness . .. just purrs along. Here's what I know so far:

I don't think it's a loss of prime - when the truck has been sitting it fires right up.

I changed the lift pump to a fuel boss (hard starts started 2 weeks after install).

I replaced the VP44 a year ago.

Thoughts?

Thanks all!!

Maybe the electric pump is failing when hot? Do you still have the old lift pump? It will run with the lift pump dead- there is enough draw from the VP44. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge?

'We sold a Turbo in 2 weeks to a guy in Houston! We also sold the first engine we listed - an old Hatz. It took 2 months to sell but that was OK as we couldn't move it locally. We track visitors to our website and we get lots from DieselEngineTrader.com. Your website really works, it's a great service and we'll be using DieselEngineTrader.com for years to come!'

'We had a Mercedes engine in stock for over a year but were unable to sell it in Belgium - it was an unusual specification for generator use. Once we listed it on DieselEngineTrader.com, we sold it to a customer in England! We get regular enquiries from customers across the world.'

Rob Verhoeven, Hamofa Engines, Belgium

'The engine was on other sites, but we received the most calls from DieselEngineTrader.com. We sold it to the first caller-from DieselEngineTrader.com. Also, there was a waiting list on the engine if the first sale fell through! Thanks for the great service!'
