I bought a 1972 English built motor yacht powered with twin Cat D333's. My local Cat dealer can only tell me that the engines are "big bore's" and that they are old. Ha. Both run and I've seem in frame and out of fram re-build kits advertised. My problem is that I can't find a shred of information on them. The Alban guy, as helpful as he seems to want to be, can't find my SN# in the Cat computer system. If any one knowes anything about these engines please be in touch. Thanks in advance.

Seems to me cat used two moniker systems in the sixties and seventies, one for trucks and one for everything else.Sometimes the only major differance would be exhaust or cooling with all other parts interchanging. For example, a 1693 truck engine is a 343 industrial/marine engine.Youre 333 might be a 1674 or 1673 truck engine's cousin.Check youre rocker box (valve) covers and the sides of youre block for a decal or metal plate with info on it.if you find one copy it all down.Whether you find one or not, head for an authorized factorey dealer who sells and services cat heavy equipment. The heavy equipment dealers are used to old iron and are youre best bet.Dont be discouraged, the 1600 series engines were some of the best that cat ever built.Hope this helps

Plugger,
Sorry about the delay responding to your note. I expect to major both engines so I need shop manuels and parts books. I think the parts book will also cover the marine gear and maybe the shop manuel as well. If not the gear is Twin Disk M 409. I have the SN# if needs be. Why don't you email me direct, bcaptain@bellatlantic.net. thanks again.
