Am looking at a 1980 Bertram Yacht equipped with twin 8V92's. Are there any inherent problems with these engines? Are they still in production? Are their parts readily available? Would anyone have any reason not to purchase a boat with these engines? They have 1000 hours on them since major overhaul by a reputable shop in our area.

Thanks,

Seacat

Hi,
havent used those engines myself but bit of experience with 2 stroke DD's.
like all engines it is who uses them who governs the results.
what rpm's were they run at ? ..
what is oil pressure at idle/normal cruising/max rpm.?
what is water temp at above?
what is the engine room temp at cruising?
what sort of air filtration do they have?
do they have fuel coolers and where are they placed?
because they are now not in the approved criteria of engine emissions they are not looked favourably on, but run properly will give as good if not better service then most modern engines.
parts are still readily available and reasonably priced.

'I listed a surplus Watermota diesel on DieselEngineTrader. It took a few months to sell, but I was delighted as the engine was quite obscure and I never thought anyone would buy it!'
