Brief overview;

I o/o a transport company and right now I have an International tractor with tandem axle and Cummins ISM 370 with about 690,000 kms on it. I have no complaints at all about the engine and it's given me years of trouble free miles and the power it pushes out is somewhat overkill for the freight I haul (clothing & accessories). The most I'll haul is a 30,000 lb load of Chep pallets for a very short distance. The majority of my driving is city stop and go, with some very short distance highway use. In order to save on operating expenses this year, I'm looking to downsize to a single axle tractor with a slightly smaller engine but I need some input or advice on a certain truck that I've found. It's a 2005 International 8600 with a Cummins ISM 330 that has 390,000 kms (242,000 miles) It's air ride with A/C, cruise, electric windows, side mirror defrost, differential lock, Fuller 10 spd, 80% rubber remaining on front and rears and safety checked this past Sept.

Here are some questions I have;

1. How many kms/miles can be expected from a properly maintained ISM 330 and would 242K miles be considered low/mid or high mileage engine?
2. Are there any know issues I should be aware of or looking for with the ISM 330?
3. The difference in power between these two engines is only ~40 HP and 100 ft lbs of torque so I shouldn't feel too much of a power loss, correct?
4. I've negotiated the price down to $17,000. Is this reasonable?

Much thanks for any help provided and let me know if there is anything in particular I should check out prior to buying.

'We sold a Turbo in 2 weeks to a guy in Houston! We also sold the first engine we listed - an old Hatz. It took 2 months to sell but that was OK as we couldn't move it locally. We track visitors to our website and we get lots from DieselEngineTrader.com. Your website really works, it's a great service and we'll be using DieselEngineTrader.com for years to come!'

'I was amazed to find the engine I needed in minutes! Even more amazingly, it was less than half the estimated repair cost of the original unit!'

Paul Crane, Crane Engineering, UK

'Listed a Perkins T6.354 on DieselEngineTrader and sold it after 5 month. With a listing fee of $5.00 per month and no commission, it was much cheaper and more effective than the magazine we also used.'
