Hi,
Any guys on here using a "Lab scope" for engine diagnostics? I'm looking to buy a Hanascope 801 or a Picoscope for testing the likes of injectors and sensors. E T is great but been told using the scope you can see the actual waveform of the sensor. Any body using one? any thoughts or guidance appreciated!

Sure with CAT ET you can perform injector cut out tests (injector duration) and switch on and of injectors. But when it comes to intermittent faults I see these guys using a scope checking a wave pattern can actually see what's going on in the inside. Plus how many sensors (costing hundreds of bucks) get replaced just because of taking the MID CID FMI information for granted (a machine system fault code only points the way to the problem) whereas the wave pattern determines whether the sensor is ok or acting up. The only fault I see is that you have to make yourself a waveform library from a machine that is working perfect. (maybe a hundred wave patterns for all sensors solenoid valves used).
