Hi.
I'm looking for THE BEST combination of components to power a motorhome
and have NO idea what to really expect. My experience is negligible. I
have a 58xx empty wt. Oshkosh stepvan with 160hp Cummings 5.9TD/Allison
542 4spd/Dana 70 diff/8x19.5 tires & around 180,000 miles on it. I think it gets about 10mpg: speedo's way slow. That is ok but I'd rather get 15+mpg. Also like to keep the chassis below the 'special license' GVW
categories (26,000 GVW?)
People tell me that the I.H. DT466 with hiway gears & manual trans are
very sturdy, long lived, +-economical. Problem is, almost universally,
they say something like "I don't know how many MPG it gets. I just gas
& go."
Any ideas? Thanks.
confused;
