GOINBROKE Posts: 3 Joined: Mar 2007	Monday March 26, 2007 05:57 HAS ANYONE BEEN ABLE TO CHANGE FUEL SETTINGS ON 3406E OR C15 ENGINES. HEARD RUMORS OF IT BEING DONE BY OTHERS BESIDE CATERPILLAR. IF SO WHAT ARE SOME GOOD NUMBERS AND HOW DO THEY CHANGE THEM?

Friday December 28, 2007 23:34 ok im probly going to make some people mad but everyone knows most "Cat Techs" only know what cat teaches them everyone has heard the same crap if you turn that up youll burn it up but that burnin up is the driver ive had 700 horse 3406b models that my buddies at cat said wont last but the last one went 1.3 mil got 6mile to the gal.But like i said my cat buddies these are my friends at local cat dealer. no disrespect. As far as 3406e and c15 you can have injector trim codes changed if you have a buddy at adealership pete,kw etc have them print your current codes incase you want to go back,then delete each code and put 5232 in its place. This is a default code for industrial app.Now your cat guy and probly some on here will say "it wont work" but it will mine has been that way for 500k miles and it pulls great have many friends that have done this to they are happy.THIS CODE IS NO GOOD FOR ACCERT ENGINE. You can also put a 5k resistor in green wire on boost sensor this will give you better response but does make some smoke when changing gears. I had my cb guy hook mine through a switch i put in cab so i can turn it off when i go to Ca. Some of you have seen this for sale as "power harness" for like $50 to $100 dollars you can do it for about 6 bucks.There is also a trick for fuel temp sensor havent messed with 2 wire like on C15 but if you have 3 wire cut orange wire leave it like that. Strip bare spot on black wire cut white wire solder end of white wire toward sensor to black wire then solder 150ohm resistor to other white wire and solder other end of resistor to the black and white you solderd first.This is good for about 40 horse and about .5 mpg on mine anyway. I hope instructions were clear enough if not post and we'll do something else you can call me and i'll talk you through it or something. Good luck

Wednesday September 17, 2008 16:43 Hi Catfreak, I read in another thread where you said you use a 150ohm resistor on the map sensor and a 15k resistor on the fuel sensor, but here you say use a 5k resistor for the map sensor and 150ohm on the fuel temp. I have a pot installed on the map sensor so I havnt really tested the resistance I use. I tried a 15k resistor on the FTS and was happy with the results. I have a C15 Australian motor(not sure if there is a difference although I know there are some ECM differences due to different pollution laws). Can you clarify what the best combinations of resistors are in your experience with a dyno? Love your work catfreak and thanks for all the good info I have read in your postings. Also, please read my thread on ENGINE DE-RATING. Maybe you can offer me some advice there? Many thanks.

Wednesday November 12, 2008 20:16 Interesting thread. On the topic of getting more power from a Cat, or any diesel for that matter, have you considered adding LPG to the truck? For example, we took a C15 from 495HP @ treads to 650HP with our LPG System with no detonation on the WestTrak dyno. Of course this is errr a "little" excessive but just goes to show what LPG can acheive We pull them down to a safe 580HP at the wheels but when you are not using the extra power, say at cruise, the LPG is saving a whole 30% of diesel. That equates to around 15% net fuel savings. If the mods allow a little showboating ... On our website we show the benefits of LPG ... WITHOUT BLOWING UP YOUR ENGINE Remember, our system is injecting LPG AFTER (POST) TURBO!!! All the ones that have blown up engines are injecting pre turbo. Anyway, you can easily acheive really good performance gains with LPG which saves you fuel and you dont have to pay CAT (or other manufactureres) for the privilege of flashing the ECU and costing you more $$$ Hope this helps. NitroRat Posts: 1 Joined: Mar 2009	Sunday March 08, 2009 14:30 I have read about using an air pressure regulator before the map sensor to limit the pressure it sees to 28 psi so you will not reach fuel shutdown @ 30 psi. A zener diode would be a better way to do it. anyone know what voltage the map sensor reads @ 28 psi?

Friday March 20, 2009 00:08 you can have all the horsepower you want, but if the trans or rear ends cant take it, then you gonna mess something else up. it all depends on the driver for all of it. if you step on it too hard, you gonna break something. be careful when turning up engines. i work on cats a lot, and a lot of folks are right when they say that cat mechs only know what cat teaches you and im one of em. i believe that when you turn your truck up, you have to "baby" it and know when to get in it and when to lay off of it. the mpg comes with the knowledge of how to use the power that you can accomplish with these "upgrades". ------------------------- IT WENT BING BANG BOOM!

Wednesday April 22, 2009 12:50 I have an 2002 C-15 (550 hp) with the two wire fuel temp sending unit and I used the 150ohm (1/8 watt) resistor with great results. I just unpluged the the harness from the unit took the resistor bent the wires on it in half and pluged it in to the harness, then took a tie wrap ran it in between the two wires and over the resistor and sinched it up so the resistor wouldn't fall out. Then just tie wrap it off to the back side of the main harness that runs just above it. I don't know what the resistor is telling the ECM but it like the engine was just set free. The response you will get unbeliveable from such a simple tweek. The resistor will go bad after about 60 or 70,000 miles. Just plug the harness back into the sender for a few hundred miles and start over. The resistors can be picked up at Radio Shack or something like it for a buck plus tax for a pack of five. This little trick should take you about 15 mins and the results are great. You should pick up at least a half mile to the gallon. The little trick to the boost sensor works also and you truck will pull like you've never seen, BUT your fuel mileage will DROP and will blow black smoke (and I mean black smoke) every time you push down on the throttle. And no matter how easy you push on the throttle it just blows black smoke and I'm sure that will get you pulled over for an inspection.

Thoughts? >> Yes it also works on a 3406E. From what I've heard it works on any Cat engine. (ie C-12,C-13,C-15 etc)

An 1/8 watt or 1/2 watt will work just fine. When your engine starts to act and run a little crappy that means the resistor went bad. Just take the resistor out and plug the harness back into the FTS for a few hundred miles and then put a new resistor in.

Saturday May 29, 2010 17:00 i have a c16 looking for some power but have cat warranty. Haul then weight need more power doesnt seem like it has the torque it had before i had it rebuilt have about 50000 on inframe have a resistor on the fuel temp sensor not sure about the turbo boost sensor if i could have a little info on the turbo boost sensor and anything else i could do to wake it up im not very happy with my engine right now would like a little extra torque that its lacking

Sunday March 31, 2013 09:17 anyone tell me what ohm resistor would I need for turbo boost to show 5lb of boost right now all I have tried is a 2.2k 1/2 watt it is very affective I was told by the man who informed me on it that 2.2k is 12lb of additional boost reading it really turned her loose but is honestly way too much for anything other than just showing off I am wanting to show 5lb so that I can have all the same results just much milder my engine has already been tweeked with 5232, 150 ohm fuel temp, and was a industrial cat generator engine to start with but I love the performance and the feel of insane power and response please reply ------------------------- whoop'n'boogie
