I live in the Solomon Islands and recently bought for a song, a small diesel powered launch.

http://www.esaboat.blogspot.com/

I live in a remote place so the diesel fuel I'm able to source comes from all sorts of dubious places and guaranteed to contain just about anything from sediment to water.

In the boat, I plan to put in line from tank to engine first a simple bowl water separation filter, then a primary CAV filter, than the secondary on the engine.

When I buy diesel (to purchase I put word out and it arrives to me in a variety of any kind of container that will hold it in various volumes, origin unknown but probably 'highjacked' from the loathed Malaysian logging camps) I let it sit for a while the syphon of the top 90% leaving the last litre or two.

I've been wondering how to do some filtering at the pumping end before I put into the tank?

And wondering if any point in putting more than one primary filter before the engine?

Any advice out there on working with dirty diesel would be very appreciated.

I have heard that many people making home filtration systems for when they covert to french-fry cell phones. Includes something like 5 55 gallon drums, where you filter the dirty diesel to the next barrel & the next barrel & the next with a pump & every time using a lesser filter until you are at some obscene micron filter.

Yeah, this is very serious problem. The exhaust fumes from common diesel engine are much dirtier than the comparable gasoline engine's. Not only is diesel smoking distressing, research says it to be harmful for people & the environment also. The govt is making plans to make diesel vehicles much cleaner now a days.

'I had hundreds of "hits" on your website which generated 5 or 6 inquiries from all over the world; Germany, The Philippines, Korea, Sweden, and Spain. I sold all 3 of my engines to a buyer from South Korea. Your website was invaluable to me in selling these engines; no other ads that I ran produced any inquiries.'
